On Monday it was announced that Sho Sakurai and Keiko Kitagawa will be starring in a movie version of Fuji TV’s Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de (The After-Dinner Mysteries), a 10-episode TV drama which aired from October-December last year.
Based on a best-selling novel by Tokuya Higashigawa, the drama starred Kitagawa as an ultra rich heiress named Reiko Hosho who hid her status to work as a rookie police officer by day. Sakurai played her perfectionist butler Kageyama who offered helpful advice delivered with his own unique brand of brutal honesty.
The movie version will be largely the same, just on a larger scale. Shooting will take place mostly aboard the “SuperStar Virgo”, the largest luxury liner in Asia.
In the movie, Reiko boards her family’s luxury cruise ship, the “Princess Reiko”, along with Kageyama and embarks on a vacation to Singapore. While on-board, a murder occurs and the two of them get involved in the case.
Kippei Shiina will reprise his role as Reiko’s boss at the Criminal Affairs Division, Kyoichiro Kazamatsuri, but the other announced cast members are all new additions. Masatoshi Nakamura will play the ship’s passenger manager, Nanami Sakuraba will play a stage singer on the ship, Takeshi Kaga will play the captain, Rie Miyazawa will play a non-wealthy woman who won her ticket in a lottery, Naoto Takenaka will play a film director, Jun Kaname will play an apprentice to the ship’s chef, and Katsuhisa Namase will play a company president who loves gambling.
Filming of “The After-Dinner Mysteries” started on May 31 with the same staff as the drama and is expected to wrap by the end of July. The movie will be released in Japan sometime in 2013.comments powered by Disqus
