Actor Yo Oizumi is set to star in Masato Harada’s upcoming film Kakekomi Onna to Kakedashi Otoko, marking the first time the two have worked together. Actresses Erika Toda and Hikari Mitsushima have also been cast as the film’s two heroines.
The movie is based on a historical novel by late author Hisashi Inoue titled “Tōkei-ji Hanadayori”. Oizumi will play a rookie physician named Nakamura Shinjiro who aspires to become a novelist.
The story is set in the Edo period at a nunnery called Tōkei-ji which is known for offering refuge to women while they’re in the process of divorcing their husbands or are otherwise trapped in bad situations. Shinjiro stays at an inn located at Tōkei-ji to get ideas for a book he plans to write about various situations and tactics involved in divorce arbitration. While there, he attempts to offer friendly advice to several of the women regarding their new lives, but winds up getting dragged into their troubles in the process.
Toda will play a master iron artisan named Jogo who arrives at Tōkei-ji after becoming fed up with her good-for-nothing husband and Mitsushima will play the mistress of a wealthy wholesale business owner who flees to Tōkei-ji.
“Kakekomi Onna to Kakedashi Otoko” was filmed from February 22 to April 15. A nation-wide release is planned for May 2015.
