Doing Time (2002)
Doing Time is a Japanese live-action movie directed by Yoichi Sai and based on a manga by Kazuichi Hanawa. It was screened at the Vancouver International Film Festival on October 8, 2002 and released by Xanadeux in Japan on December 7, 2002.
The movie follows the day-to-day life of a middle-aged prison inmate. Hanawa (Tsutomu Yamazaki) and his four cellmates actually seem to enjoy the mundaneness of prison life and the regimented style of living it provides.
Over the course of their sentence together, they have detailed conversations about every insignificant topic imaginable and center their seemingly serene existence around mealtime.
