Back on July 30, the main cast members of Shinji Higuchi’s 2-part live-action movie adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan were announced, but their specific roles were kept under wraps. Today their roles were finally revealed along with a series of 13 new character images, ending months of fan speculation.
The new images were created for an Attack on Titan exhibition which will be held at the the Ueno Royal Museum from Nov 28-Jan 25. The character visuals were largely conceived by costume designer Isao Tsuge, who’s previously worked on films like Departures, Yatterman, 13 Assassins, and Parasyte.
According to producer Yoshihiro Sato, physical resemblance to the original characters wasn’t a consideration at all. After many conversations with Isayama, casting decisions instead came down to whether the actors could embody the spirit of their characters.
Although many of the manga’s original characters including Eren, Armin, Hans, Mikasa, Sasha, and Jean are represented, there are also seven new characters created for the films.
