High Kick Girl! poster 2

It’s been a while since my last post on Fuyuhiko Nishi’s High Kick Girl!, and there have been quite a few updates in recent days, not the least of which being that lovely new poster art to the left and the extremely recent launch of the film’s . There’s also a new trailer out which is a bit more theatrically-minded than the they posted back in January—which was actually more of an action reel to prove this movie isn’t just a half-assed gimmick. The new trailer features a lot of cool stuff like nunchuks and a mysterious flaming arm. This time around we finally get a good glimpse of a sailor-suited Sayaka Akimoto of AKB48 putting her black belt in Aikido to good use.

You’ll find a plot summary and a whole mess of video clips after the break.

Plot: Kei (Rina Takeda) joins a karate dojo and quickly proves herself to be the most skilled fighter amongst all her male peers. However, her sensei Matsumura still refuses to give her the coveted black belt until she learns all the kata (forms). Too impatient to wait any longer, Kei hastily joins a fighting group called the Destroyers. The Destroyers don‘t care about anything but fighting and earning money, and this suits Kei just fine. But when she finds out their true purpose—to destroy Matsumura—she decides she must do whatever it takes to put a stop to them.

Here‘s the second full trailer:

Here‘s some short clips the production has been posting on YouTube along the way:

And finally, here‘s a recent clip of Takeda bringin’ the pain to the cast of TV Tokyo‘s Pokemon Sunday:

“High Kick Girl!” is slated for release in June.
