A new batch of production stills has been released from the set of the 2014 live-action Rurouni Kenshin sequels, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen and Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen.

The new photos, featuring Takeru Satoh and Himura Kenshin and Ryunosuke Kamiki as Seta Sojiro, were taken on location at Koko-en Garden near Himeji Castle in Hyogo Prefecture.

The sequels are based on the Kyoto Arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s original manga and feature former government assassin Shishio Makoto (Tatsuya Fujiwara) as the primary antagonist. Sojiro is Shishio’s right-hand man.

Filming began on July 1 and has taken place in various locations including Ibaraki, Kumamoto, and Kyoto.

On the day the photos were taken, they were filming a scene in which Okubo Toshimichi (played by Kazufumi Miyazawa of the rock band THE BOOM) is murdered as a crowd of people gather around him. Later, an important scene occurs in which Kenshin and Sojiro confront each other.

Satoh and Kamiki previously both appeared in the TBS drama Bloody Monday, but this will mark the first time they’ve actually worked together in earnest.

“Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Taika-hen” and “Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen” will be sequentially released by Warner Bros in summer 2014.
