Sion Sono to direct live-action adaptation of Santa Inoue’s "Tokyo Tribes"

Sion Sono is set to direct a live-action adaptation of Santa Inoue’s Tokyo Tribes (aka Tokyo Tribe 2) manga. Instead of casting actors through agencies, Sono will be holding an open audition on YouTube.

The film’s consists of introductory videos by Sono and Inoue, with two sample auditions demonstrating the type of videos perspective applicants should send their way as well as instructions on how to make submissions.

Inoue’s original manga is set in near-future Tokyo as a turf battle between street gangs, aka “tribes”, escalates into a large-scale war.

The movie, which is going by the Japanese title Tokyo Tribe, will begin filming this summer.
