Ju-on: The Grudge (2003)

Ju-on: The Grudge is a Japanese horror movie written and directed by Takashi Shimizu.

The movie follows two previous low-budget original video releases by Shimizu, Ju-on and Ju-on 2, which were released on VHS in 2000 and serve as prequels to the theatrically-released “Grudge” films.

Plot

When volunteer social worker Rika Nishina is sent to check up on an old woman, she finds her in a catatonic state without any of her family members around.

Soon, strange things start happening and she discovers a little boy trapped in an upstairs closet. What Rika doesn’t know is that years earlier there were a series of gruesome murders in that house, and the vengeful ghosts of Kayako Saeki and her son Toshio are still residing there.
